In Psalm 18:2, the Bible reminds us that God is our shield and our salvation. That shield is not something physical but our faith in Him wards off the forces of evil and their darts. In describing the armour of the believer, the Bible admonishes us to put on "the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked." - Ephesians 6:16 (KJV)
If faith in God is our shield, how do we build or grow it?
1) By feeding on the word of God. (Romans 10:17)
2) By putting that word to work and seeing God prove Himself faithful. The verse below was recorded during the first missionary journey of Paul and Barnabas:
"Long time therefore abode they speaking boldly in the Lord, which gave testimony unto the word of his grace, and granted signs and wonders to be done by their hands." - Acts 14:3 (KJV)
So no matter what you're going through in your life or the challenges facing you, keep consuming and declaring the word of God and it will eventually quench the fiery darts of the enemy.
God is our defence but we need to activate Him through taking in and releasing His word constantly and with conviction.
Prayer:
Dear God, You alone are my defence in this life. I understand your protection is not magical but arises from my intake, belief in, expression of and acting on your word. Help me to delight in Your word and use it accordingly so You can function as my shield and salvation as you desire to. Thank you, Lord, in Jesus' name.
